Storm Lose To Stars In Shootout, 3-2

LINCOLN, NE - The Tri-City Storm rallied from a two goal deficit after the first period, however loss to the Lincoln Stars on Sunday night in a shootout, 3-2. The Storm (0-2-1 in preseason) received a solid goaltending effort from Steven Bolton, who made 23 saves on 25 shots.

The Stars scored two late first period goals as Brodie Reid and Kyle Gibbons scored back-to-back goals in the final five minutes and 30 seconds. The Storm outshot Lincoln 13-7 in the first period.

Michael Montrose was credited with the Storm's first goal at the 18:36 mark in the second period that cut the Stars lead down to 2-1 before the second intermission. Assisting on the goal was Brett Mohler (who wore Mitch Hughes' 24 jersey) and new defenseman Tyler Vanscourt.

The Storm fired away in the third period and was able to tie things up 16:55 into the third period, as Josh Berge received a pass from Maxwell Tardy from behind the net and buried it past Lincoln goalie Steve Racine.

The game went to overtime with both teams tied at two goals.

Bolton made five saves in overtime for the Storm, however none were bigger than the one he made on Reid. Reid came around from the back of the net and Bolton moved laterally to make a brilliant right-pad save that pushed the game to a shootout.

Nonetheless, the Storm lost in the shootout 2-1, as the only Storm goal in the shootout was scored by the fifth and final shooter Anthony DeCenzo. The Stars' Tucker Brockett scored immediately following DeCenzo's shootout goal to propel the Stars to victory.

Tri-City outshot Lincoln 36-26 in the game, however the Storm were 0-7 on the power play.

The Storm will play three games this week at the Fall Classic in Sioux City, Iowa, which begins this Thursday when the Storm play Team USA under-18 squad (4pm). Tri-City will play Cedar Rapids on Friday (1:30pm) and Youngstown on Saturday (10am).
