Worcester Tornadoes News Release
QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--- The 2009 season ended right back where it began, unfortunately the outcome of game one hundred was the same as game one. The Worcester Tornadoes dropped the deciding game of the CanAm Championship series by a score of 7-4, and the series 3-1.
It looked like it Capitales starter Karl Gelinas (1-1) was in for a long night after the first inning when the Tornadoes opened up the scoring with a pair of runs on a Nick Salotti single and led 2-0. However that lead would be quickly be erased in the bottom of the frame. Quebec tied up the score against starter Jusef Frias (0-1) and went ahead 4-2 with a two run long ball from first baseman and hitting coach Pat Scalabrini.
Gelinas only allowed two hits and a single run in his following five and a third before he gave the ball over to reliever Brett Palanski. Palanski retired all five men he faced before the closer Derek McDaid doused any hope of a Worcester comeback in the top of the ninth.
Quebec becomes the first franchise in the re-born CanAm League (2005) to win multiple championships. Scalabrini, in addition to his homerun, added another RBI single. Goeffrey Tomlinson went three for five with a pair of doubles and an RBI.
Thank you from the players and from office staff to everyone who attended, listened to, covered, or supported Worcester Tornadoes baseball in 2009. We look forward to providing you with exciting baseball and a great family game experience again in 2010.
