Soo Greyhounds News Release
The Soo Greyhounds Hockey Club announced a pair of roster moves earlier this afternoon involving forward BRENDAN CHILDERLEY and defenseman CAMERON ODAM.
Childerley, who was set to enter his 2nd season with the Hounds was released by the Club and will return home to Stratford, ON to await re-assignment or trade.
In 51 games played one year ago, Childerley had 2 goals and 1 assist, for 3 points - a -12 plus/minus rating and 12 penalty minutes.
"Unfortunately today we made the decision to send Brendan Childerley home to wait for reassignment. We have spoken to teams in the OHL to try and find another opportunity for him, but currently have been unable to find a fit. Hopefully in the next 3-4 days a situation will arise that will give Brendan another OHL opportunity. These are tough days when you have to deal with such a good young man and deliver heartbreaking news. Brendan was a well-liked teammate and we hope to assist him in finding him another OHL opportunity" said GM Dave Torrie.
Odam, who was originally selected in the 10th Round of the 2006 OHL Priority Selection, was subsequently traded to the Kingston Frontenacs for a 4th Round Pick in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection.
Odam will now enter his 3rd season in the OHL closer to his Stittsville, ON home.
"We would like to wish Cameron success in Kingston and thank him for the 2 seasons he spent here in Sault Ste. Marie. He's a good kid and a solid defenseman who will be popular with his teammates in Kingston. As a club we felt we had some depth at the position and wanted to ensure we are able to give adequate ice time to our young players to develop. At this time we feel that the 4th round pick in return was the best value we could retrieve and we wanted to solve this issue before Friday" concluded Torrie.
The Greyhounds now continue to prepare for their 2009/2010 OHL season opener scheduled for this coming Friday, September 18th when they play host to the Ottawa 67s. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the Essar Centre. If you can't make it to the game don't forget you can listen to all the action with Gerry Liscumb Jr. and Spanky Robinson, on the Hounds new home for Sault Transit Greyhound Hockey .....
