
Cats pound Rainiers, can close series Saturday at Raley Field

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Chris Carter hit his third homer of the series and starter Jerome Williams allowed one run over 7.0 innings as the River Cats topped the Rainiers 13-2 before 11,894 fans Friday night at Raley Field. Sacramento takes a 2-1 series lead with the victory and now has two chances to close out the best-of-5 series at home (Saturday, 7:05 p.m.; Sunday, 1:05 p.m., if necessary).
Williams allowed seven hits and struck out eight batters in a gritty performance.
Sacramento jumped on Tacoma early with six runs over the first three innings, including a two-run Chris Denorfia double in the second and Carter's towering solo blast in the third. The River Cats' top three hitters (Denorfia, Adrian Cardenas and Brett Wallace) combined to go 8-for-15, including a three-run homer from Wallace in the eighth. Matt Carson, who led Sacramento with 25 homers during the regular season, hit his first of the playoffs in the seventh inning, a two-run blast.
