Huntsville Havoc News Release

HUNTSVILLE, AL - Huntsville Havoc Head Coach Randy Murphy announced today that the team has re-signed defenseman Martin Kubaliak and signed defenseman Grant Buckley.

Kubaliak (6-3, 220) has played in 162 career games and scored 16 goals, recorded 43 assists and has 340 penalty minutes. He played in 51 games in Huntsville last season, scoring eight goals and recording 20 assists. He also played in 51 games for the Havoc in his rookie season of 2006-07 and scored five goals with 17 assists.

"I haven't seen a lot of him, but he is a good sized kid," Murphy said. "Martin should add some physicality to our back end. He has a lot of skill and strong skating ability for a big kid. He has been in Huntsville for a couple of seasons so I look for him to add some leadership for some of the new guys."

"I'm so excited to be back in Huntsville for another season with such a great team and awesome fans," Kubaliak said. "I'm also looking forward to working with Coach Murphy to bring the SPHL Champions Cup to Huntsville."

Buckley (6-2, 200) played in 95 collegiate games at Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada from 2004-08, where he scored five goals, recorded 31 assists and had 394 penalty minutes. He also played in 194 career junior games from 2000-04 and scored 23 goals, recorded 42 assists and had 381 penalty minutes.

"Grant will be a first-year pro, but comes from great programs in the major junior and college level," Murphy said. "I think he is more of a pro-style player than collegiate so he should add a lot of depth to our blueline."

"After talking with Coach Murphy and Coach Paul Snell I think they are trying to put a new team together and I am excited to be a part of that," Buckley said. "I feel I have good vision on the ice and a great work ethic. It's a great opportunity for me to come in and help get us moving in the right direction."
