JACKSONVILLE, FL - Florida Marlins pitcher Anibal Sanchez will pitch for the Suns on Monday, August 17 in the Suns' 7:05pm game. Sanchez's start is the third major-league rehabilitation assignment during the Suns' tenure as the AA affiliate of the Marlins, following one start by Marlins starter Andrew Miller and two starts from Marlins reliever Matt Lindstrom.
Sanchez, 25, made seven starts for the Marlins this season before being placed on the 15-day Disabled List with shoulder pain on May 8. He was activated on June 1, made one start for the Marlins and was placed on the DL just three days later on June 4 with the same issue. Sanchez made three starts for Class-A Jupiter, going 13 1/3 innings with a 0.68 ERA and 12 strikeouts against just seven hits. In his last start for Jupiter on August 7, Sanchez pitched 6 2/3 hitless innings with five strikeouts.
Sanchez has already made one start for the Suns, pitching in Tennessee against the Smokies on August 12. He allowed only four hits and two walks in seven innings, striking out three. Sanchez last pitched in Double-A in 2008 as he recovered from surgery for a torn labrum during the 2007 season. He has a 15-13 record and a 4.12 ERA over four seasons with the Marlins, including a no-hitter against the Arizona Diamondbacks in September 2006.
