San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO (August 11, 2009) - The San Antonio Rampage announced today that the American Hockey League club has named Dan Weiss as their broadcast operations manager and will serve primarily as the team's play-by-play announcer.
"Dan possesses a classic announcer style" Spurs Sports & Entertainment's Director of Broadcasting Mike Kickirillo said. "His descriptions of the game are vivid, yet not cluttered and he has a distinctive voice. No gimmicks, a solid play-by-play announcer."
Most recently as the director of broadcasting and team services for the ECHL's Phoenix RoadRunners, the 29-year-old Weiss served as the voice of the Rampage's 2006-07 ECHL affiliate in Phoenix, AZ. During his tenure with the RoadRunners, Weiss also called the shots for the Phoenix Mercury (WNBA) and hosted the Phoenix Suns (NBA) "Planet Orange Pre-and-Post-Game Show" on Sports 620 KTAR.
Weiss' 11 years of broadcasting experience has landed him all over the United States, including Texas where he served as the broadcaster for the Corpus Christi Ice Rays (CHL) during the 2002-03 season. He has called games for the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies (ECHL), worked as a producer at Sports Radio 850 AM WEEI in Boston and served as the host of "Arizona Cardinals Overtime" on both News 92.3 FM and Sports 620 KTAR.
Recognized as the 2005-06 ECHL Broadcaster of the Year, Weiss was selected to the radio broadcast team for the 2005 ECHL All-Star Game in Reading, PA and the television broadcast team for the 2008 ECHL All-Star game in Stockton, CA.
A graduate of Northeastern University, Weiss earned degrees in communications and political science and served as the Huskies' hockey play-by-play announcer.
In addition to calling all 80 Rampage regular season and playoff games, Weiss will also spend time in corporate sales, community relations and marketing roles for the Rampage.
"We are excited to have Dan join our growing Rampage staff," said Director of Hockey Business Operations Ryan Snider. "His tremendous on-air talent and vast business operations experience will be a great addition to the organization and I am confident our fans will come to love his team player attitude and friendly personality."
The Weston, Massachusetts native will make his Rampage debut on October 2 when the team begins their eighth AHL season at the AT&T Center. Rampage season ticket packages are on sale now. For ticket information, please call 210.444.5554 or visit sarampage.com.
