Soo Greyhounds News Release
In an announcement earlier today, Soo Greyhounds defenseman Brock Beukeboom was named one of 22 players set to participate at the upcoming Memorial of Ivan Hlinka for the Canadian Under 18 team.
This year's event will take place August 11th to August 15th in Piestany, SVK and Breclav, CZE.
Beukeboom, who is set to enter his 2nd season with the Hounds, is coming off a rookie OHL campaign that saw the Uxbridge, Ontario native dress for 55 of the team's regular season games where he had 2 goals and 9 assists on the year. He later capped off the season by being named Hounds co-rookie of the year with Brandon Archibald who will represent Team USA at the same Under 18 tournament.
"Obviously this is a real good accomplishment for Brock to represent his country and the Soo Greyhounds at the Under 18 Championship. This is a testament to the work Brock has put in this summer and the progress he made as a hockey player last season. He'll have a wonderful experience and we wish him the best of luck" stated Hounds GM Dave Torrie.
Beukeboom and Team Canada are set to defend as tournament champions, and compete in Group A along with Sweden, Switzerland and the Czech Republic.
Their tournament schedule is as follows:
Friday, August 7 1 p.m. vs SVK Exhibition
Sunday, August 9 1 p.m. vs USA Exhibition
Tuesday, August 11 9:30 a.m. vs SWE Preliminary
Wednesday, August 12 9:30 a.m. vs SUI Preliminary
