Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

The Sky Sox battled back to tie the game at the end of nine only to come up short in the 12th inning, losing 11-10 in front of 3,385 fans at Security Service Field Saturday night.

Down nine to four going into the bottom of the eighth inning, the Sky Sox staged a dramatic comeback starting with a two-run triple by Christian Colonel, cutting the lead to 9-6 River Cats. Mike McCoy and Matt Miller would each add RBI singles later in the inning and Paul Phillips would be credited with an RBI on a groundout, giving the Sox five runs in the inning and tying the game up at 9-9.

Neither team scored in the ninth or tenth innings. Matt Herges would give up a run to the River Cats in the 11th as Tommy Everidge blasted a homer to left to give Sacramento a 10-9 lead. The lead wouldn't last long, however, as relief pitcher Jerry Blevins (3-3), who closed out the final three innings for the River Cats, gave up a run in the bottom of the 11th when Dan Ortmeier singled home Miller to tie the game back up, this time at 10-10.

Sox reliever Matt Wilhite (0-3) came on in the 12th to try and hold the River Cats down, but allowed Chris Denorfia to score as Cliff Pennington grounded out, giving the River Cats the lead 11-10.

Blevins would do his job in the bottom of the 12th as he sat the Sox down in order giving Sacramento the win 11-10.

The Sox and River Cats have a double-header tomorrow as game one will have a 1:05 PM start and will feature left-hander Greg Smith (1-1, 5.48) of the Sox versus lefty Dana Eveland (8-2, 4.14) of the River Cats. In Game two, Jason Hirsh (6-6, 4.14) will take the mound for the Sox against a pitcher still to be determined for Sacramento.
