FORT MILL, S.C. - July 22, 2009 - The Charlotte Knights continued their winning ways beating the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 4-2 at Knights Stadium. The Knights used a four run third inning to propel them to the win.

The Knights got a great outing from pitcher Wes Whisler who picked up his sixth win of the season and his first win in nine starts. Whisler pitched seven strong innings allowing just tow runs off of eight hits. He also had four strikeouts in the outing.

Whisler gave up a pair of runs in the second inning as the IronPigs took an early 2-0 lead. Charlotte came back by scoring four in the third inning. They took the lead for good on a two run homer from outfielder Josh Kroeger. For Kroeger it was his team leading 13th homer of the season and has now homered in back to back games.

Reliever Jon Link came on in the ninth inning and threw two pitches before the game was delayed for 42 minutes by rain. After the showers passed the ballpark, Link needed just six more pitches to close out the game. Link earned his ninth save of the season.

The series between the Knights and IronPigs continues on Thursday. RHP Jack Egbert (6-4, 3.88) will get the start for Charlotte. Leigh Valley will start RHP Gustavo Chacin (4-3, 3.73). Game time is 7:15 PM.
