Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox were finally able to take one away from the Fresno Grizzlies as the Sox won 4-3 in front of 4,301 fans at Security Service Field Sunday.

The Sky Sox recorded the game's first run in the bottom of the third inning as Chris Frey singled home Eric Young Jr., who swiped his 50th stolen bag of the season, during Frey's at-bat, making him just the second player ever in Sky Sox history to record 50 steals in one season. The Sox would go on to add one more run in the bottom of the fourth as third baseman Christian Colonel smacked an RBI single to center off Grizzlies starter Joe Martinez giving the Sox a 2-0 lead.

Sox starter, Brandon Hynick, looked sharp as he didn't surrender a run until the sixth when Grizzlies third baseman Ryan Rohlinger belted an RBI double to left, cutting the Sox lead to 2-1. On the very next at-bat, left-fielder Ben Copeland singled in Rohlinger to tie the game at 2-2. Scott Munter (4-2) would come on to relieve Hynick tossing a scoreless seventh and striking out one.

Not to be outdone, the Sky Sox answered right back in the seventh with two runs of their own off Fresno reliever, Shingo Takatsu (0-1), coming by way of a Chris Frey RBI single and an RBI double by left fielder Matt Miller, extending the Sky Sox lead to 4-2.

The Grizzlies threatened in the eighth, as Sox Reliever Ryan Speier walked the bases loaded. Randy Flores and Matt Wilhite would come on, in relief of Speier, to record the final two outs of the inning allowing one run to score on a throwing error shrinking the Sox lead to 4-3.

Matt Wilhite would stay on for the Sox in the ninth and would sit the Grizzlies down in order to record his ninth save on the season, giving the game a final score of 4-3.

The Sky Sox end up dropping the series to Fresno three games to one and will travel to Las Vegas where right-hander Alan Johnson (8-4, 5.57) of the Sox will take on lefty Davis Romero (1-2, 6.14) of the 51's in a 7:05 PM PT start.
