Frisco RoughRiders News Release

In a true pitcher's duel, Frisco fell just one run short to Springfield

It took the RoughRiders eight innings to find the scoreboard as they fell in Springfield Friday night, 2-1. The Frisco offense managed just four hits, matching a season-low. Frisco starter Blake Beavan (0-2) remains winless with the RoughRiders despite a strong outing.

Springfield jumped on top 1-0 in the second inning when Tony Cruz hit a solo home run, the first homer allowed by Beavan at the Double-A level. The Cardinals made it 2-0 in the fifth frame, but Frisco answered with a run in the eighth inning when Renny Osuna singled and advanced to second on an error. After Marcus Lemon singled, Mitch Moreland hit an RBI ground out to plate Osuna and bring Frisco within one. However, three Springfield relievers combined to preserve the win for the Cards.

Only three RoughRiders collected hits, including two from Lemon who had the team's only extra-base hit with a double. Moreland has now recorded an RBI in five consecutive games and has an eight-game hit streak.

Beavan tied a season-best going seven innings, allowing just two runs on six hits, striking one and walking one. Jose Diaz also pitched a scoreless inning of relief in his first appearance off the disabled list. Springfield starter Ryan Kulik (3-5) earned the victory and Francisco Samuel recorded his 19th save, which is second in the Texas League.

Frisco and Springfield will play the rubber-match on Independence Day with first pitch at 7:10.
