State College Spikes News Release

-SPIKES AND D-DAYS FINISH SERIES TONIGHT: The State College Spikes finish off their three-game set with the Auburn Doubledays at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park tonight. It's the rubber match of the three-game set, with Auburn winning on Tuesday and the Spikes taking the decision on Wednesday. Auburn still leads the all-time series, 20-15.

-LAST NIGHT: David Rubinstein was the hero, going 3-for-5 and knocking in Evan Chambers with a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth to deliver the Spikes a 4-3 win over the Doubledays at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Marc Baca threw just one pitch in the top of the ninth to get the final out of the frame and earn his first professional win. Kyle McPherson started for the Spikes and went six strong innings, striking out seven to set a season high for any State College starter.

-SPIKES BANK ON MAURICE: The Spikes send out another 2008 returnee tonight as right-hander Maurice Bankston gets the ball. Bankston makes his second start of the 2009 New York-Penn League season. In his first outing, the Crosset, AR native went 3.2 innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk against Mahoning Valley on June 28. Bankston began the year with Single-A West Virginia, going 1-4 with a 4.98 ERA.

-JUSTICE TO SERVE FOR AUBURN: Right-hander Scott Justice starts tonight for the Doubledays. Justice has been a reliever to this point in the season, making three appearances out of the bullpen and allowing one run over five total innings. The Issaquah, WA native faced the Spikes in one such appearance on June 27, allowing two hits and walking one but escaping without a run. Justice was the 27th round draft choice of the Blue Jays in this year's draft.

-WALKING RIGHT INTO ACTION: Evan Chambers played center field last night and went 0-for-1, but walked three times and scored the game-winning run in his first pro game.

-TONIGHT AT THE BALLPARK: The Spikes continue this week's cycle of Daily Fan Value Promotions with 4 for $44 Friday. It's also Groundhog Day Night at the ballpark tonight.
