San Jose Giants News Release

Roger Kieschnick hit two home runs and collected six RBI's while Garrett Broshuis tossed eight innings of four-hit ball on the mound to lead the San Jose Giants to a 7-1 victory over the Stockton Ports on Saturday night in front of 4,466 fans at Municipal Stadium. Kieschnick hit a three-run shot in the third inning to score the first runs of the contest before adding a two-run homer in the fifth. Meanwhile, Broshuis surrendered only one unearned run during his outing as San Jose extended their winning streak to a season-high six games. With the victory, the Giants improve their overall record to 45-28 - tied for the best mark in the California League.

Broshuis (6-1) earned his 22nd career victory with the San Jose Giants to set a new team record. The right-hander struck out five and walked none with his eight innings marking the longest outing of the year for any Giants pitcher. Broshuis also spent parts of the 2004 and 2005 seasons with San Jose as he now owns a career 22-13 record in the California League.

Kieschnick (3-for-4, 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI), who added a run-scoring double in the bottom of the sixth, led the 12-hit San Jose offensive attack. Nick Noonan (3-for-3, 2B, RBI) enjoyed a perfect night at the plate while Brian Bocock (2-for-5) and Thomas Neal (2-for-5) also finished with more than one hit.

The Giants broke through against Stockton starting pitcher Scott Mitchinson in the bottom of the third inning scoring three runs to take a 3-0 lead. Consecutive singles from Tyler Graham and Bocock started the frame before Neal struck out swinging. Kieschnick was up next and he lined the 1-0 pitch of his at-bat over the fence in left for an opposite field three-run homer.

Stockton answered in the top of the fourth inning with what turned out to be their only run of the night. Shane Keough led off with an infield single to shortstop breaking a string of seven consecutive hitters that Broshuis had retired. After advancing to second on a wild pitch, Grant Desme reached base safely with one out on a fielding error committed by Bocock at shortstop. The miscue put runners on the corners as Steve Kleen then delivered a sacrifice fly to the warning track in left field plating Keough to bring the Ports to within 3-1.

Kieschnick again got the Giants on the scoreboard with the long ball, this time going deep in the bottom of the fifth inning. Facing reliever Scott Hodsdon, Bocock led off with a single and then two batters later, Kieschnick belted a two-run homer to deep left center field to make it a 5-1 contest. San Jose wasn't done though in the inning as with two outs, Conor Gillaspie singled before Noonan delivered an RBI double off of the fence in right center.

The Giants scored their final run in the bottom of the sixth as Bocock reached on an error with one out before Kieschnick's two-out, RBI double down the right field line.

Broshuis was spectacular on the mound as he set down the Ports 1-2-3 in the second, third, fifth, sixth and eighth innings. He only allowed a double in the top of the first to Jemile Weeks, Keough's infield single in the fourth, an infield hit to Weeks in the top of the seventh and a leadoff single in the ninth to Jermaine Mitchell. After Mitchell's hit, Broshuis was removed from the game in favor of Dan Runzler, who struck out three to seal the Giants victory.
