Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

FISHKILL, N.Y. (June 26, 2009) - The Renegades (4-3) escape a Yankees (1-6) eighth inning rally to defeat Staten Island 3-2 at Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George in front of a crowd of 7,171 Friday night. The Renegades did not start play in Staten Island until 9:07 p.m. due to a two hour seven minute rain delay.

Southpaw Kyle Lobstein got the starting nod for the Renegades and did not disappoint. Lobstein hurled four innings of three-hit, shutout baseball and struck out six. The six strikeouts are the most whiffs thrown by a Renegades pitcher this season.

Right-handed pitcher Angel Chapa came into the game in relief of Lobstein to start the fifth inning. Chapa hurled two innings of three-hit, shutout baseball en route to his first win of the season.

The Renegades Chris Murrill had a stellar game going 3-for-5 on the night with two runs scored, one RBI, a double and two stolen bases. The Renegades stole five bases giving them nine stolen bases on the season.

The Renegades jumped ahead of the Yankees etching two runs in the visiting half of the third. D.J. Jones jump started the Renegades offense hitting a leadoff double and advanced to third after Diogenes Luis was out at first on a sacrifice bunt. With Jones on third Chris Murrill recorded an infield single allowing Jones to trout the 90 feet to home. After a stolen base and an error by the Yankees third baseman, Robert Lyerly, Murrill crossed home recording the Renegades second run of the inning bringing the score to 2-0, in favor of the Renegades.

The Renegades offense gave their pitching staff some insurance in the seventh plating another run bringing the score to 3-0, in favor of the Renegades. With one out and the bases empty Murrill hit a double to center field and stole third during the next at-bat. Bennett Davis took full advantage of Murrill on third putting the ball in play and grounding out to the shortstop. After the shortstop made the throw to first Murrill broke for home plating the Renegades third and final run of the game.

The Yankees offense broke through the Renegades stellar pitching in the home half of the eighth. With two outs the Yankees plated two runs on back-to-back-to-back doubles to bring the score to its final, 3-2.

The Renegades finish the three-game series vs. the Staten Island Yankees Saturday night at Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George in Staten Island. The Yankees will give the ball to southpaw Francisco Rondon (0-1, 1.59) and right-handed Alexander Colome (1-0, 0.00) will get the starting nod for the Renegades. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
