West Sacramento, Calif. - Sacramento River Cats starting pitcher Vince Mazzaro was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 11 - May 17, league officials announced Monday. This is the first time a River Cats player has won the weekly award this season.

The 22-year-old right-hander made two starts during the week, earning a victory in the first one on Tuesday, May 12th by throwing an 8.0 inning, one-hit gem against the Albuquerque Isotopes. Mazzaro flirted with perfection in that game, with one bloop hit in the 7th standing as the only thing between Vince and the first perfect game in franchise history. He followed up that performance by allowing just one run over 5.0 innings in the Cats' 13-inning victory over the Round Rock Express on Sunday afternoon. Overall for the season, Mazzaro is 1-2 with a team-best 3.16 ERA in 8 games.

Mazzaro, a native of Hackensack, New Jersey, is in his fourth professional season and his second with the River Cats. Mazzaro was drafted by the A's in the 3rd round of the 2005 Amateur Draft and was ranked by Baseball America this offseason as the 8th best prospect in the Oakland Organization.
