SIOUX FALLS, SD - All three St. Paul Saints pitchers gave up runs on Saturday afternoon in the Independent Baseball Showcase at Sioux Falls Stadium losing to the Kansas City T-Bones, of the Northern League, 14-5.

Most of the damage against the Saints was done in the middle three innings when the T-Bones scored four runs in each of the 4-6 innings. Saints starter Adam Cox allowed just one hit through the first three innings and appeared on his way to cruising in his second exhibition start of the season. In the fourth, however, Cox gave up four consecutive hits to start the inning, two doubles, a single and a triple that scored three runs. A sacrifice fly plated the fourth run of the inning putting the Saints in a 4-1 hole.

The Saints answered back in the bottom of the fourth inning with a pair of runs to cut the deficit to one. The Saint loaded the bases with three singles from Jacob Butler Ole Sheldon and Andrew Schmiesing. Tony Mansolino knocked in Butler with a single and Sheldon scored on an error by the left fielder.

The T-Bones put up four more against Cox in the fifth courtesy of a solo homer a two-run single and an RBI single. Cox went 5.0 innings allowing eight runs (five earned) on nine hits while walking one and striking out three.

Kyle Foster, five runs in 2.0 innings, and Mike Bille, one run in 2.0 innings, were the other two pitchers for the Saints.

The Saints catching core had a solid day as former Gopher Jeff DeSmidt and recent addition Chris Herbert , from Concordia-St. Paul, each homered for the Saints.

The Saints are back in action on Sunday afternoon with a 1:05 p.m. exhibition game against the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Pittsburgh Pirates second round pick from 2008, Tanner Scheppers will get the start for the Saints. It is Dog Days presented by Downtown Dogs. Fans are allowed the bring the dog to the ballpark.
