UNCASVILLE, Conn. (May 4, 2009) - The Connecticut Sun announced Tuesday it will partner with the Connecticut Library Consortium (CLC) to promote literacy through the "Fast Break To Reading" program, sponsored by Pitney Bowes.

"Our libraries are incredibly valuable assets," Connecticut Sun General Manager Chris Sienko said. "They promote learning, literacy and imagination, and they push children to achieve."

A state-wide membership collaborative, the CLC serves various Connecticut libraries by initiating and facilitating cost-effective services to strengthen their ability to serve their users.

"We are excited to partner with the Connecticut Sun," CLC Executive Director Christine Bradley said. "This relationship will help create a better awareness of our member libraries, and all of the good work they do here in Connecticut."

The CLC will work with their libraries to identify and encourage children to participate in the 2009 Fast Break To Reading program. Participants will be required to pledge to read at least 10 hours during the WNBA season, to record the time they spend reading in a Fast Break To Reading worksheet, to attend a WNBA game, and to attend one reading timeout.

Additionally, local Connecticut libraries will host several Reading Time Outs throughout the summer. Sun players, along with representatives from Pitney Bowes, will be on hand at each event to read to area youth and to speak about the importance of reading. Participants will receive gift bags and complimentary tickets to an upcoming Sun game.

The Connecticut Sun tip off their seventh season at Mohegan Sun Arena on June 6th with a 4 p.m. game against the Washington Mystics. Season tickets and mini-plans are on sale now and can be reserved by calling a Sun Ticket Representative at 1.877.SUN.TIXX (786-8499) or by visiting www.connecticutsun.com.
