RedHawks Sign Two, Trade for Outfielder

FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have signed RHP Nick Fellman and RHP Yosandy Ibanez and acquired the rights to OF Justin Justice from the American Defenders of New Hampshire of the Can-Am League, the Northern League club announced. The acquisition of Justice completes and earlier trade that sent OF/2B Boomer Berry to New Hampshire. All three players will be in Fargo when the RedHawks open training camp at Newman Outdoor Field on May 1.

Fellman, 23, was 4-4 with a 3.67 ERA and eight saves in 44 games with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans of the Carolina League (A). He pitched 54.0 innings and allowed 31 runs (22 earned) on 55 hits. Fellman struck out 51 batters, walked 21 and held opponents to a .263 batting average against him.

Fellman spent two seasons in the Atlanta Braves organization after being selected in the 12th round of the 2007 draft out of Minnesota State-Mankato. The Minnesota native began his professional career in 2007 with the Danville Braves of the Appalachian League (R), where he was the top reliever in the circuit. Fellman was 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA and 16 saves. He led the Appy League in saves, games (22) and strikeouts/9 innings (14.79).

Ibanez, 27, joins the RedHawks after spitting time with the Florence Freedom of the Frontier League and the Arkansas Travelers of the Texas League (AA) in 2008. Ibanez started the year with Florence and was 3-2 with a 2.01 ERA in 36 games. He pitched 44.2 innings and allowed 13 runs (ten earned) on 29 hits. Ibanez struck out 55 batters and walked 17 while holding opponents to a .181 batting average against him. After his contract was sold to the Angels organization, Ibanez with 0-0 with a 5.28 ERA in eight games for Arkansas.

Ibanez began his professional career in 2007 after defecting from Cuba in 2004. He signed with the San Francisco Giants and pitched at two locations: San Jose of the California League (A) and Connecticut of the Eastern League (AA).

Justice, 23, has spent the past five seasons in the Detroit Tigers organization after being selected in the 31st round of the 2003 draft. He began the 2008 season with the Lakeland Tigers of the Florida State League (A), where he batted .298 with 18 doubles, five triples, ten home runs, 37 RBIs and 46 runs scored in 76 games. Justice also appeared in 48 games with the Erie Seawolves of the Eastern League (AA), where he batted .153 with five doubles, one triple, three home runs and 16 RBIs in 48 games.

In his career, Justice has batted .253 with 92 doubles, 34 triples, 30 home runs, 213 RBIs and 221 runs scored in 495 games. He led the New York-Penn League (A) in triples (7) in 2004, was second in the Midwest League (A) in triples (9) in 2006 and fourth in the Florida State League in triples (7) in 2007.
