Stampede fall to Vipers in OT

BOISE, Idaho - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers defeated the Idaho Stampede 108-106 in overtime on Saturday night in Boise. The Vipers were led by Trent Strickland who recorded 24 points and 10 rebounds.
With 2.0 seconds remaining in overtime, Stampede guard Kevin Burleson attempted a driving lay-up that circled the rim and went out. The ball landed in the hands of the Vipers to seal the road victory. The Vipers managed to overcome an outstanding performance by Lance Allred who scored 27 points and grabbed12 rebounds for the Stampede.
In a see-saw battle, which featured 21 lead changes and eight ties, the Vipers pulled out the win despite being out-rebounded 71-56 and outscored inside the paint 52-32.
Jawad Williams added 22 points for the Vipers, while Jared Jordan tallied a double-double, scoring 15 points and dishing out 13 assists. Quin Humphrey dropped in 12 points, in the win.
"Give Rio Grande Valley all of the credit; they made their shots," said Stampede Head Coach Bryan Gates. "It was a great game... there were 20 guys playing their hearts out. The ball just fell for them tonight."
In addition to Allred's double-double, the Stampede had three players finish with double-doubles. NBA assignee, Nathan Jawai, scored 14 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, Brent Petway scored 10 points and had 10 rebounds to go with six blocked shots, and Kevin Burleson added 10 points and dished out 10 assists.
Idaho travels to Utah for a Monday night game. The Vipers will have a few days off before traveling to Albuquerque to take on the Thunderbirds on Friday night.
