Basketball Tournament Named After Mercury Coach

February 4, 2009 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) Phoenix Mercury

The inaugural Bridget Pettis Middle School Tournament will begin today, Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 4:30 p.m. at Madison Park Middle School. Pettis, who has been working with the Madison Park team since the beginning of the season, will be in attendance to sign autographs for the participating teams, answer questions about her basketball career and guide her team through the event.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to win an autographed Phoenix Mercury jersey by purchasing raffle tickets for only $2. All proceeds will benefit the Madison Park Middle School girls' basketball team.

"I am honored to be part of a tournament that exposes girls to basketball at such a young age," said Pettis. "I was thrilled when Madison Park approached me to coach the team. It allows me to help build young girls' confidence in their game while continuing to develop my coaching skills during the WNBA off season."

Winning teams from today's games will advance to the finals, which will be played tomorrow, Feb. 5 at 5:30 p.m.
