Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose swept a three-game road trip capping off with a 4-3 victory over the Peoria Rivermen on Sunday afternoon. Michael Grabner scored a pair of goals, his fourth and fifth of the weekend, Jason Krog netted a single for his 10th of the season and Jason Jaffray scored the game-winner in his first contest back from Vancouver. Karl Goehring blocked 23 opposing shots to secure a fourth consecutive victory for the Moose.
With Karl Goehring manning the pipes for the Moose and Ben Bishop in net for the Rivermen, the second matchup between both clubs' got underway at the Carver Arena.
Peoria benefited from the first powerplay of the night, when Mark Fistric was charged for slashing at 4:27. The home team was able to fire four shots on the man-advantage but couldn't break onto the scoreboard before the penalty expired.
Former Rivermen, Zack FitzGerald took on right-winger Eric Neilson at centre ice near the midway point of the opening frame. After a few solid blows from each side, both guilty parties were handed five-minute fighting majors.
A mere 1:10 into the middle stanza saw instant scoring action from the visiting Moose. Defenseman Shaun Heshka took the initial slap, while Michael Grabner batted the rebound into the right side of the net to take the first lead of the game.
Two minutes later, Jason Krog extended his point streak to eight games when he netted his 10th goal of the season, with help from Alexandre Bolduc and Jason Jaffray, to put the Moose on top of the Rivermen, 2-0.
Manitoba benefited from their fourth powerplay of the night allowing Michael Grabner to net his second by slapping a wrist shot passed Bishop for a 3-0 lead.
The Rivermen were handed their fourth man-advantage 1:56 into the final frame when Travis Ramsey was called-out for holding. The home team capitalized for the first time of the night when Jonathan Filewich cracked Goehring to put Peoria on the board, 3-1.
At 7:43 the home team did it again, this time courtesy of Steve Wagner, who tucked the bullet into the net to inch closer to the Moose, 3-2.
The final minutes of play were intense with Peoria hungry to knot the game at three. At 18:53 the Moose had a sigh of relief when Andy Wozniewski was penalized for elbowing. With a minute left in the game, the Rivermen opted to pull Bishop, but even with an extra attacker Jason Jaffray slid the puck down the ice to score an empty netter.
With seven seconds left on the clock Peoria's Steve Wagner scored a goal for the home team to put them in reach, 4-3. Despite the last minute effort, the Rivermen couldn't notch another goal and the Moose pulled off their fourth consecutive victory, 4-3. s
