Chicago Wolves News Release
SAN ANTONIO (December 18, 2008) - Rampage rookie Chad Kolarik scored 1:42 into the game, but Chicago rallied for a 2-1 win Thursday night at the AT&T Center.
San Antonio got a power play opportunity a minute into the game and cashed it in forty seconds later when Kolarik banged home a Brett MacLean rebound to give the Rampage a 1-0 lead just 1:42 into the game. It was Kolarik's tenth of the season tying him with fellow rookie MacLean for the team lead.
Later, Chicago tied it up when Steve Martins' redirect from the slot on Alex Brooks' wrist shot slipped between the legs of Rampage goalie Josh Tordjman to make it 1-1 at the 12:58 mark of the first.
Then Chicago took advantage of an early power play in the second period. After Dylan Reese's interference penalty a minute in, former Rampage defenseman Jamie Rivers snuck a goal past a screened Tordjman just four seconds later to give the Wolves a 2-1 lead at 1:04 in the second. The power-play goal was the Wolves' sixth straight game scoring on the man advantage.
With 5:46 left in the second period, Chicago couldn't take advantage of a minute and a half of five-on-three hockey and took a 2-1 lead into the third. Chicago entered the third 13-1 on the season when leading through two while San Antonio was 0-15 trailing after two.
This night, those trends didn't change as both teams went scoreless and Chicago held on for their second straight win over the Rampage. San Antonio went 0-3 on the power play in the frame and didn't help their cause with penalties late in the period that kept them shorthanded for nearly four minutes with six and a half left in regulation.
The loss snapped the Rampage 6-game home winning streak and Chicago forward Joe Motzko's 5-game goal streak, which dated back to December 5th.
Brent Krahn stopped 35-36 shots to win back-to-back games against his former club while Tordjman lost for the first time after tying his franchise record 6-game winning streak.
For Tordjman, it was his 100th AHL career game. His next win will break the franchise mark of 44 set by Travis Scott.
This was the second of a three-game match up with the Wolves. Sunday, the Wolves ended San Antonio's franchise record six-game winning streak with a 4-1 win in Chicago. The Rampage and Wolves meet again tomorrow night at the AT&T Center.
