PrairieThunder Signs Two

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Bloomington PrairieThunder coach Jarrod Skalde announced the signing of two defensemen Tuesday.

Veteran Matt Frick and rookie Nick Goyens will see their first action Thursday when the PrairieThunder travels to Flint for a 6 p.m. International Hockey League game.

Frick started the season with the Amarillo Gorillas of the CHL. He played 16 games, recording one assist.

During his eight-year career, Frick has played seven seasons in the CHL with San Angelo, Corpus Christi, New Mexico and Rock Mounttain. He began his professional career in 2001 with the Richmond Renegades of the ECHL.

The 6-foot, 200-pound Frick has played in 425 pro games, scoring 24 goals with 109 assists for 133 points. He also has 296 penalty minutes. The 31-year-old Detroit native has played in 30 playoff games, recording six assists. He will wear No. 33.

Goyens hails from Montreal and has played four seasons in the Quebec Junior League. He most recently played for Halifax.

The 6-3, 188-pound Goyens played 160 games at the junior level, scoring six goals with 28 assists for 34 points. He registered 149 minutes in penalties.

The 20-year-old Goyens will wear No. 5. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not released.

To make room on the roster, rookie defenseman Voldy Dashko was waived.
