Port Huron Icehawks News Release

PORT HURON, MI - Kalamazoo's Anthony Battaglia notched a pair of second period goals on Tuesday to lead the K-Wings to a 4-2 victory over the Port Huron Icehawks at McMorran Arena.

Despite the loss, the Icehawks (14-11-0-0) remain in first place in the International Hockey League with 28 points, one point behind the Fort Wayne Komets, who were idle tonight. The K-Wings (13-9-0-0) snapped a two game road losing streak with the win and moved into third place with 26 points.

Port Huron's Jason Selleke scored the lone goal of the opening period at 18:58 in the first. It was the forward's first game back in the lineup after missing the last eight games due to an injury. In the second period, Battaglia stole the show. He scored shorthanded at 7:54 and struck again before the end of period to give his team a 2-1 advantage.

The K-Wings increased their lead in the third period when Tommy Lange landed the eventual game winner before the ten minute mark. The Icehawks regained some momentum when Tab Lardner scored on assists from Kris Vernarsky and Ian Turner at 13:20 to make it a one goal game, but they could not find the equalizer in the final minutes. As the clock wound down, the K-Wings landed an empty net goal to boost the final score.

The Icehawks outshot their opponent 31-29 in the loss. Jason Tapp made 29 saves to earn the win, while Sterling made 25 saves on 29 shots.

Both teams failed to capitalize on the power play. The Icehawks were 0-3 with the man advantage and the K-Wings were 0-2.
