Houston Aeros earn point, fall 3-2 in shootout to Manitoba Moose

HOUSTON, Texas - A late come-back earned the Houston Aeros one point but lost 3-2 in a shootout to the Manitoba Moose in front of 8,169 fans in the Aeros' 6th Annual Kids/Hookie Game. Manitoba (17-4-0-0) won all four contests in the season series allowing the Aeros (10-10-1-2) only one point in the four games. Houston stays at home for a 7:35 p.m. game against the Syracuse Crunch Saturday night. Game Recap

Manitoba opened the scoring just 3:32 into the first period when Alexandre Bolduc wristed a shot into the far corner over the blocker of goaltender Barry Brust. Earning assists on the play were Pierre-Cedric Labrie and Maxime Fortunus. The goal marked the third straight game in which Houston has allowed the first goal of the contest. Manitoba outshot the Aeros 11-3 in the period and took the 1-0 lead into the intermission.

Neither team scored in the second period, although there were plenty of chances on both sides of the ice. Each team recorded seven shots on net and Manitoba finished the frame without scoring on four power-play opportunities. Houston had one man-advantage in which they couldn't convert.

The Moose took a 2-0 lead at 12:04 in the third period with an even-strength goal coming from Michael Grabner. Houston wouldn't go quietly and mounted a come-back with Jason Deitsch scoring a power-play goal at 13:10 in the third period. Brust was pulled in favor of an extra attacker which allowed Corey Locke to tie the game with only 1:53 remaining. Clayton Stoner and Krys Kolanos set up the play that sent the game into overtime with a 2-2 tie.

Neither team was able to finish the game with the additional five minutes of play even with Manitoba getting a man-advantage. In the shootout Houston got going early with Brust blocking the first two attempts and Locke scoring on the Aeros' first chance. However, Manitoba took control and scored with their next three shooters while Houston couldn't find the back of the net again for a 3-2 Moose victory.

Notes: - The Aeros have allowed the first goal in the last three games. Houston is 5-7-0-1 when allowing the first goal this season.

- Houston went winless against Manitoba in all four games this season with a 0-3-0-1 record. Manitoba is the only current AHL team to hold the Aeros winless in a season-series of four or more games which they have done twice. This season and in 2004-05 when the Aeros had a record of 0-4-0-0 versus Manitoba.

- Krys Kolanos extended his point streak to four games with an assist. He has recorded seven points (4 goals, 3 assists) in that span tying his longest streak of the season at four games.

- The attendance of 8,169 fans was the largest crowd so far this season for the Houston Aeros. The group was largely students taking part in the 6th Annual Kids/Hookie Game, which includes hockey related material that supports the TAKS/TEKS tests.
