Jason Wood Joins Coaching RanksOctober 31, 2008 - Pacific Coast League (PCL) Albuquerque Isotopes
Wood, 38, broke Spring Training last year with the Florida Marlins before joining the Isotopes in mid-April, where he played 105 games, batting .269 with 14 doubles, four homers, and 42 RBI. In 2007, Wood spent the entire season as a key component off the Marlins' bench batting .239 with three homers and 26 RBI in 98 games. Prior to his full season in Florida, Wood was a fixture for the 'Topes, with whom he played from the team's inception in 2003 through 2006, quickly becoming a fan-favorite. In addition to his time with the Marlins, Wood also saw action in the big leagues for Oakland (1998) and Detroit (1998-99).
After playing for the Isotopes in five of the team's six seasons, Wood has appeared in more games (587), had more at-bats (2,087), racked up more total bases (894), and driven in more runs (328) than anyone in the history of Triple-A baseball in Albuquerque while also ranking second all-time in hits (588), third in runs (316), fourth in doubles (102), and fifth in homers (60). He was thrice selected Isotopes team Most Valuable Player, garnering the accolade in 2003, 2005, and 2006.
Wood joins an Inland Empire field staff that includes manager Carlos Subero and pitching coach Charlie Hough, who played for the Albuquerque Dukes in 1972 before embarking on an 11-year career with the Dodgers and a 25-year Major League pitching career. Inland Empire is located in San Bernardino, California and has been a Single-A partner of the Dodgers since 2007.
