Last night's celebration in the City of Brotherly Love can be felt all the way back here in Winnipeg.Among those enjoying Philadelphia's first World Series title since 1980 was Dong Lien, who serves as the club's Major League conditioning coordinator and assistant athletic trainer. His journey began back in 2001 while with the Goldeyes as an athletic therapy intern.
"This has been quite an experience," Lien said. "As enjoyable as this has been, one thing I constantly remind myself of is how it all began with the Goldeyes."
Following three years at the University of Manitoba, he graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise & Sports Science, majoring in athletic therapy. Lien served as Goldeyes athletic therapist in 2003 & 2004 before taking an intern position with the Phillies in 2005 with the club's Florida State (A+) League affiliate in Clearwater.
In 2006, he served in a dual role as athletic therapist and conditioning coordinator with the Batavia Muckdogs of the New York-Penn (A) League before becoming Philadelphia's minor league conditioning coordinator in 2007. He was promoted to the big club last November.
