Pensacola Pelicans News Release

Three weeks after the Pensacola Pelicans named Talmadge "T" Nunnari as the next Field Manager, the team announced today James Gamble as the new Player Procurement Director for the 2009 season.

Gamble returns to the Pelicans organization after two-years in which he focused on opening and operating baseball training academies in south Florida, Louisiana, and New York. He will be responsible for scouting, recruiting, and signing players along with Nunnari.

"James knows how to find the caliber of players we need to succeed," said Nunnari. "He has relationships with scouts and coaches all over the country and is well respected in the baseball industry."

The Lafayette, LA native has worked with the Pelicans beginning since their inception in 2002 in the Southeastern League of Professional Baseball where Gamble served as the League Commissioner. In 2003, Gamble began working the Pelicans as the player procurement director. The following season, Gamble added the duties of pitching coach.

"I'm looking forward to working with T and the rest of the Pelicans organization this season," commented Gamble. "Pensacola has a great fan base and my goal is to bring another championship to the city."

In the years Gamble has been the Player Procurement Director, the Pelicans had a record 150-103 and reached the post-season every year. He has signed several players who have been picked up by a Major League team including Phil Devey, who played for Team Canada in the 2004 Summer Olympics, Edwar Ramirez, who spent the 2008 season with the New York Yankees, Josh Kranawetter (Tampa Bay Devil Rays), Carlos Mendoza (New York Yankees), and 2004 CBL Player of the Year Rafael Alvarez (Pittsburgh Pirates).

In 1995, Gamble started his professional baseball career as a pitcher for Corpus Christi, a member of the Texas Louisiana League. In 1997, he was the General Manager of the Saskatoon Stallions of the Prairie League of Professional Baseball. In 1998, he was the Assistant General Manager of the Visalia Oaks, the single-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. In addition to playing and managing, he has also scouted and coached in Korea, Mexico, and Italy.

In 1998, Gamble founded the Independent Scouting Bureau, now named the Global Scouting Bureau, which assists players in obtaining professional placement. The Global Scouting Bureau is one the world's largest and most successful professional procurement service in baseball.
