RiverKings Add Kubaliak To Blue Line
September 30, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release
(Southaven, MS) -- Mississippi RiverKings' Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Kaminski believes his latest addition will provide some additional toughness to the blue line, when the Central Hockey League (CHL) season begins for his team. Kaminski has announced the signing of defenseman Jozef Kubaliak to the 2008-09 RiverKings' roster.
The 6-foot, 230-pound Kubaliak last season played in 52 games with the Twin City Cyclones of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL), under former Memphis RiverKings player and Coach Mark Richards. With Twin City, Kubaliak assisted seven times and added 186 penalty minutes for the Cyclones. Jozef also played in two Cyclones' playoff games, earned no points, but received one minor penalty in those two contests.
Kubaliak's other hockey experience on this side of the Atlantic came in the Junior "A" North American Hockey League, where he played one game with the Texas Tornado.
A native of Zvolen, Slovakia, Jozef has also played in Sweden, Slovakia, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic. In 40 European games over eight seasons, Kubaliak scored four goals and added five penalty minutes for nine points and 111 penalty minutes.
Kaminski says Kubaliak is willing to do what it takes to be a winner. "Jozef brings a hard nosed style of play," Kaminski says. "He's big, physical, and will go through the wall for his teammates. He puts his 'hard hat' on and goes to work every shift. He has high energy and pays the price."
If the last name is familiar, it might be because Jozef's younger brother Martin Kubaliak played in three games for the RiverKings last season, played for Wichita and Tulsa in the CHL, as well, and also played in 14 games with Bakersfield of the ECHL.
