Chicago Red Stars News Release

Bridgeview, IL (September 24,2008) - The Chicago Red Stars acquired the negotiating rights to four international players during today's Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) Initial International Draft. The Red Stars selected two forwards, Brazil's Cristiane and England's Karen Carney, a left-sided player in Austrialia's Heather Garriock, and an experienced goalkeeper in Sweden's Caroline Jonsson.

"I'm very pleased with the four players we selected today," said Red Stars Head Coach Emma Hayes. "Cristiane and Carney are both top forwards, Garriock is an experienced and versatile player, and Jonsson is a world class keeper."

The draft does not reflect any intent or commitment on the player's behalf to sign with a particular team or that any offer has been made to the player. Rather, it signifies the beginning of the process by which each team will move forward according to the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players. These regulations govern the relationships between players and clubs around the world.

The four international players, if signed, would form the core of the Red Stars squad which already includes Olympic gold medal goal-scorer Carli Lloyd, forward Lindsay Tarpley, and veteran defender Kate Markgraf.

The Chicago Red Stars kick off their inaugural Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) season in April at Toyota Park. Season tickets are now on sale. Call 1-866-WPS-2009 or log on to www.chicagoredstars.com to your seats.
