Colorado Mammoth News Release

BOSTON - The Colorado Mammoth used its first pick of the 2008 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft at TD Banknorth Garden to select forward Matt Danowski of Duke University. Danowski, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound native of Farmingdale, N.Y., was the seventh overall selection and the Mammoth's only first-round pick.

Danowski, the 2007 and 2008 U.S. collegiate national player of the year, captained the Blue Devils to an 18-2 record last spring in his senior season. A four-time All-American, Danowski helped Duke to three national semifinals and two national championship game appearances. He is the Blue Devils' all-time leading scorer after leading the nation in scoring three times.

Danowski also excelled as a rookie this summer in Major League Lacrosse, earning a selection to the professional outdoor league's all-star game and recording 22 goals and 14 assists in 10 games for the New Jersey Pride.

"We're very excited for Matt to join our organization," said Mammoth general manager Steve Govett, who traded two second-round picks in the draft to the Calgary Roughnecks in exchange for the seventh overall pick. "Obviously, he's an accomplished scorer already in the outdoor game and we think he can become a major offensive force in the NLL."

The Mammoth used two of its remaining three picks on Danowski's former Duke teammates, choosing Mike Ward in the third round (31st overall) and Ryan McFadyen in the sixth round (69th overall).

With its fourth-round selection (43rd overall) the Mammoth selected Terry Kiminer of the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.

The expansion Boston Blazers selected Daryl Veltman of Hobart College with the first pick in the draft.
