
Wings Select Sean Thomson in First Round of National Lacrosse League Draft

Boston, MA- The Philadelphia Wings selected Sean Thomson from Bellarmine University with their first pick (ninth overall) in the 2008 NLL Entry Draft. As a midfielder with Bellarmine in 2008, the 6'2" Burlington, Ontario native recorded six points (3G, 3A) in eight games played. Thomson was also a member of Major Series Lacrosse's (MSL) Peterborough Lakers 2007 Mann Cup Championship team and was the team's 2007 rookie of the year. In 2008 Thomson, recorded 13 points (5G, 8A) in 11 games played with the Lakers.
"Sean was a great pick for us, we were very happy he was still available to take. He is a big physical player which we feel will be a great fit for the right side of our offense this year," said Wings General Manager Lindsay Sanderson.
The Wings selected defensive midfielder Matt Bocklet from Johns Hopkins University with their second selection (25 overall). Bocklet collected 99 ground balls and 2 points (1G, 1A) in 17 games played with Johns Hopkins in 2008.
"A theme for us in this draft was selecting players who we felt were very athletic and had great feet. [Matt] Bocklet has outstanding feet and I think he will be a great cover guy in this league," said Wings Head Coach Dave Huntley. "Just like last year, we are very pleased with the draft and we feel it will make the good team we had in 2008 even better."
With their third pick (36 overall), Philadelphia selected Syracuse University forward Mike Leveille. Leveille was the 2008 Tewaarton Trophy winner and was a four time All-American at Syracuse. The 6'3, 204 pound forward scored 83 points (49G, 34A) in 18 games played for the 2008 NCAA Champion Orange.
With the Wings fourth selection (45 overall), the team selected forward Matt Lalli from Colgate University. Lalli was second on Colgate in scoring in 2008 with 47 points (20G, 27A).
Philadelphia selected Jordan Levine from the University at Albany with their fifth selection (47 overall). Levine recorded 33 points (13G, 20A) in 16 games played in 2008 for Albany.
The Wings sixth selection (58 overall) was Georgetown University defender Jerry Lambe. In 2008, Lambe was named a first team All-American as well as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Defensive Player of the Year.
With their seventh selection (60 overall), Philadelphia selected Duke University defender Tony McDevitt. In 2008 McDevitt collected 58 loose balls while starting in all 19 of his team's games.
With their final selection in the draft (71 overall), Philadelphia selected 2008 Drexel University co-captain Steve Grossi.
