Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
The Williamsport Crosscutters lost their '08 season finale in Jamestown Saturday night 9-5. Jamestown swept the 3-game season-ending series over Williamsport vaulting the Jammers into the NY-P playoffs as the wild-card entry.
The Cutters scored all their runs in the 5th inning as SS Troy Hanzawa led of with his 19th double of the year followed by a walk by OF Doug Morales and an RBI double by 2B Daniel Hargrave to start the scoring flourish. C Joe Blackburn, OF Arlon Quiroz, OF Bryan Frew and 3B Cody Overbeck all drove in runs in the inning. For Overbeck it was his 57th RBI of the year giving him the league RBI title, and setting a new Crosscutters single-season record. Overbeck fell one short of the overall single-season Williamsport short-season RBI record of 58.
RHP Tyler Cloyd (5-4) took the loss allowing all nine Jammers runs in his four innings of work. Jordan Ellis and Michael Schwimer combined to hold Jamestown hitless over the final four innings.
The Cutters finish the 2008 season with a record of 38-37 and in a 3rd place tie with Auburn in the Pinckney Division. Batavia and Jamestown finished in a tie on top of the Pinckney, but Batavia captures the title by virtue of a better winning percentage.
The Jammers will go on to face Staten Island who captured the McNamara Division crown with a league-best 49-26 record in a best-of-three semifinal series. The other semifinal will see Batavia taking on Stedler Division champion Lowell.
