Sporting Kansas City News Release

(August 19, 2008) - The inaugural Mayor's Nick Kicks tournament, a collaboration between the Kansas City Wizards ownership group OnGoal, LLC, the Mayor's Office of the City of Kansas City, Missouri and the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners, wraps up this Friday. The final two teams will square off for the inaugural Kansas City Cup Friday at 10 p.m. at the Wizards Swope Park Training Center. The 3rd place match takes place immediately before at 8 p.m. Metro Sports will broadcast both games.

The first-year tournament was designed to provide an affordable, positive outlet for underprivileged men ages 18-25. Registration costs were limited to $200 for a team of 20. Sixteen teams competed in the group-play stage, and the field has now been whittled down to two finalists. CD Honduras and Real Del Oro enter the championship match with a combined record of 9-1-0. Both teams started out in Group D, with Real Del Oro winning the opening match between the squads 4-1. Over 700 fans showed up to watch CD Honduras' 2-0 semi-final victory over Real Hidalgo last weekend. Friday's rematch between Real Del Oro and CD Honduras should also draw a large crowd.

Wizards broadcast partner Metro Sports will broadcast both the 3rd place and Championship matches on tape delay. Metro Sports personality Brad Porter will serve as the play-by-play voice for both games, with Major League Soccer goalkeeper Andrew Kartunen serving as the analyst.

The champion, runner-up and third place teams will be awarded trophies and introduced at halftime of this Saturday's Kansas City Wizards home game against FC Dallas at 7 p.m. CT. All tournament participants received a T-shirt and a ticket to match against Dallas.
