Boise Hawks News Release

Michael Ambort hit a two-run double in the top of the ninth, as the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes rallied for a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over the Boise Hawks before 1,968 fans at Memorial Stadium.

Trailing 2-1, the Volcanoes got a lead-off single in the ninth from Mike Loberg, then moved to second on a sacrifice by Jose Flores, who reached when Hawks catcher Carlos Perez fumbled the ball. Ambort, who hit three home runs on Friday, hit the first pitch he saw from Bubba O'Donnell to the wall in right-center, giving S-K their first lead. He'd score on a Johnny Monell grounder, giving his club a two-run lead.

The Hawks would try to rally in the bottom of the frame, as Kyler Burke singled and Perez was hit by a pitch with one out. The duo moved up a base on a wild pitch, with Burke scoring on a Marwin Gonzalez ground out to cut the margin to one. However, Justin Fitzgerald coaxed pinch hitter Michael Brenly to ground out to end the contest.

The loss spoiled a quality start from the Hawks Ryan Searle, who pitched five shutout innings, allowing just three hits, fanning six. It marked the first time since Game 2 of the season that the Hawks had blown a lead in the ninth - ending a streak of 25-straight wins.

The eight-game homestand continues tomorrow, as the Spokane Indians come to town to start a three-game set, with Aaron Shafer getting the call for the Hawks.
