Greenville Drive News Release
Kannapolis, NC - The Drive offense (61-57, 21-27) came alive Sunday evening as David Mailman, Oscar Tejeda, and David Marks knocked in six of Greenville's eight runs to avoid a series sweep at the hands of the Kannapolis Intimidators (54-62, 23-23).
Greenville mounted an early six-run lead, scoring runs in the second through the fourth innings. Following a Michael Almanzar triple in the top of the second, Marks broke a scoreless tie with a two-run homer off Miguel Socolovich (4-6).
Tejeda highlighted a three-run third inning, collecting one of the Drive's two hits, lacing a two-run single with the bases loaded. A two-out, throwing error by Eduardo Escobar allowed Greenville's third run of the frame to score.
Mailman capped the three-inning scoring barrage with a solo homer in the fifth.
On the mound, Brock Huntzinger (1-1) came back with a vengeance after a less than memorable outing in his Drive debut on August 4th. The right-hander limited the Intimidators to just a pair of hits through the first four innings, before allowing a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth, including a solo homer by Sergio Morales.
Lance McClain tossed the final 4.0 innings for the Drive, allowing just one Kannapolis run despite surrendering five hits. After allowing back-to-back hits to leadoff the sixth for an Intimidators run, McClain retired the next nine batters he faced in earning his third save.
The Drive added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the eighth as Will Vazquez delivered an RBI-single and Mailman added a run-scoring groundout.
The Drive return to Fluor Field for an eight-game homestand beginning tomorrow with a four-game set against the Lexington Legends (Houston Astros affiliate). South Atlantic League All-Star Felix Doubront will toe the rubber for Greenville as Lexington counters with southpaw Anthony Bello.
During the homestand, the Drive will begin preparations for their 1,000,000th fan to Fluor Field as one fan will be selected per game until the milestone is reached for the chance to be the honorary millionth fan.
