Jackets Shutout in Series Finale with Greensboro

Greensboro, NC - The Augusta GreenJackets (41-28, 31-17) could not complete the four game sweep of the Greensboro Grasshoppers (38-32, 18-31) on Sunday losing 3-0 and being held to a season low two hits. Starter Chance Corgan suffered the loss and Augusta was shutout for a 13th time this season.

The Grasshoppers scored all three of their runs with two outs and jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a two-out solo homer from Mike Stanton.

Corgan (3-5) allowed all three runs on seven hits while matching a career high with seven innings pitched. Corgan walked one and struck out three.

Grasshopper starter Stuart Alexander (9-8) was perfect for 6.1 innings retiring the first 19 batters in a row before Nick Noonan connected for a one-out single in the seventh inning.

The eighth inning was Augusta's best chance to get back into the game already trailing 3-0. Angel Villalona led off the frame with Augusta's only other hit then Andrew Davis reached on a fielding error to put runners on first and second with nobody out.

Greensboro reliever A.J. Batisto was able to retire the next three batters in a row to end the threat and preserve the shutout.

Greensboro's other two runs came in the fourth inning on a two-out, two-run double from Brian Schultz off of Corgan.

The GreenJackets return home for an eight game home stand on Monday beginning with four games against the Northern Division's first place team, the West Virginia Power (Milwaukee Brewers). Augusta sends lefty Scott Barnes (0-1, 1.13) to the mound for his third start of the season. First pitch on Monday from Lake Olmstead Stadium is at 7:05 p.m.
