26 R, 25 BB, 12 K, .536 OBP, .788 SLG

This Week in the Texas League History

August 5, 1992...Leadoff hitter Rico Christian sparked a 17-hit Arkansas attack with five hits in six at-bats, leading the Travs to a 9-6 win over Shreveport. The offensive output by Arkansas must have been a surprise to the Captains. They had limited the Travelers to just 21 hits in the previous four games of their current series.

August 6, 1903...Art "Dodo" Pennell had a perfect day at the plate for Waco in a 13-9 loss to Fort Worth. Pennell had five of Waco's 16 hits, collecting two singles, two triples and a home run in five times to the plate. Unfortunately for Waco, Fort Worth touched their starter, Cy Mulkey, for 19 hits, negating Pennell's productive afternoon.

August 7, 1888...Dallas throttled Houston 18-0, collecting 23 hits in the process. Arthur Sunday, brother of famed evangelist Billy Sunday, was the offensive star of the game for Dallas, going 4-for-6 with two home runs and four runs scored.

August 8, 2003...San Antonio pounded El Paso 20-6. It is the second time during the 2003 season that the Missions had scored at least 20 runs in a single contest. Offensive hero's abounded for San Antonio as they matched their season high in hits with 25. Seven members of the San Antonio lineup had at least three hits, while Jose Lopez and John Lindsey each had four. Every Missions hitter had at least one hit and scored a run, while Lopez led in run production, knocking in five. Even light hitting utility player Tim Merritt got into the swing of things, reaching base five times in six plate appearances, going 3-for-4 with a double, two walks and four RBI's.

August 9, 1978...A scratch single by catcher Terry Stupy with one out in the ninth inning was the only hit allowed by San Antonio's Mark Nipp, as he led the Dodgers past El Paso 1-0. Stupy's hit had bounced off Nipp's leg and was retrieved by third baseman Mike Zouras. Unfortunately, his throw to first base was too late to preserve the no-hit bid. Nipp completed the one-hitter without walking a batter and striking out 17.

August 10, 1967...A pair of sluggers led Austin to a 15-8 wipeout of visiting Dallas-Fort Worth. Center fielder Cito Gaston starred for the Braves, stroking a single, triple and two home runs. All of which produced six RBI's. Clean-up hitter Dave Nicholson chimed in with three hits, including a pair of two-run homers.

August 11, 1958...A rough first inning cost San Antonio starter Jim Archer a win in an otherwise stellar outing. Pitching a complete game, during which he struck out 16, Archer struggled in the opening frame, allowing three runs on three hits, three walks and a wild pitch. Though he allowed just two more walks, five hits and a pair of runs over the final eight innings, he was saddled with Missions 5-3 loss to Fort Worth.
