Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees News Release
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees infielder Cody Ransom has been named to the International League All-Star team as a replacement for his former SWB Yankees teammate Justin Christian, who was recalled to the New York Yankees roster replacing Johnny Damon who was placed on the 15 day DL by New York after injuring his shoulder crashing into the wall at Yankee Stadium.
Ransom leads the Yankees in several offensive categories including, games (85), at bats (319), hits (81), doubles (17) and runs batted in runs (48). The slugger is also tied with Jason Lane for the team lead in home runs with 14. He has shown his versatility for Manager Dave Miley appearing in games at all of the infield positions as well as designated hitter.
Ransom, in his first season with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, signed with the Yankees organization on November 27, 2007 after spending two seasons in the Houston Astros organization. He was originally drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the ninth round of the 1998 First Year Player Draft out of Grand Canyon University. While in the Giants organization Ransom was named a PCL All-Star while playing with the Fresno Grizzlies in 2001.
The International League will look to pick up its third consecutive win at the mid-summer classic after coming out victorious in the 2006 All-Star Game held in Toledo, Ohio and the 2007 Game in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This will be the 11th showdown under the current IL vs. PCL format, as the first ten contests pitted All-Stars selected from National League affiliates against those from the American League.
