Kinston Indians News Release
The Kinston Indians hit four home runs on way to a 10-1 win over Frederick Friday night in Maryland. The Indians were all over Frederick pitching, scoring four runs off starter Jake Renshaw in the first inning. Renshaw walked three batters, and Niuman Romero picked up a run-scoring single. Jason Denham followed with a two-run single, and stole second base. Romero came home to score off Denham's steal, and the Tribe chased Renshaw, who left after one inning due to a stomach illness.
The K-Tribe scored another run in the second off a wild pitch, and came up big in the fourth with a two-run homer by Beau Mills and a solo homer by Carlos Rivero, who was playing in his first game off the disabled list. Mills hit his team-leading 11th home run in the eighth, recording his second multi-home run game of the season. Mills was 3-for-4 on the night with three runs scored and three RBI. Jerad Head added a solo home run in the ninth to give Kinston a season high four team home runs in the game.
Shawn Nottingham started the game for Kinston, giving up just one run in four innings, and Vinnie Pestano pitched two scoreless frames in his first appearance since being called up from Low-A Lake County. Pestano gets his first win, and anchored five innings of scoreless relief from the K-Tribe bullpen. Pestano, Mike Pontius, Neil Wagner and Dan Cevette combined to give up just two hits over the final five innings of the game.
The Indians go for the series win tomorrow night at 6:00 P.M. against Frederick. Kinston has not lost a series since the beginning of May, and sends Josh Tomlin (5-3) to the hill for the finale.
