The announcement was made earlier this month at the ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center, at the Leahy Center for Lake Champlain.

"Earlier this year, I had the honor of being invited to the White House when the Boston Red Sox visited with the 2007 World Series trophy. It was an exciting day for Red Sox Nation, and a thrill for me personally," Senator Leahy said. "So, when the Lake Monsters indicated an interest in bringing the trophy to the baseball fans of Vermont, my staff contacted the Red Sox on their behalf.

The trophy will be on display at the field before the game and fans will then have a chance to have their picture taken with the trophy during the game.

"I am delighted that the Red Sox recognize Vermont as an important part of Red Sox Nation, and look forward to joining the Lake Monsters in hosting the trophy," Senator Leahy said.

"We are very excited to have the World Series trophy at Centennial Field at the start of our season," Lake Monsters General Manager C.J. Knudsen said. "Hopefully we'll have a New York-Penn League trophy to share with our fans when the season comes to an end."
