Padres Recall Joe Thatcher, Designate Wil Ledezma For Assignment

PORTLAND, Ore. - The San Diego Padres today recalled Portland left-handed pitcher Joe Thatcher and designated left-handed pitcher Wil Ledezma for assignment.

In two previous stints with San Diego this season, Thatcher, 26, is 0-4 with a 7.45 ERA (16er, 19.1ip), 14 strikeouts and nine walks in 17 relief appearances. Acquired from Milwaukee along with right-handed pitcher Will Inman and left-handed pitcher Steve Garrison in exchange for right-handed pitcher Scott Linebrink on July 25, 2007, Thatcher has no record and a 2.00 ERA (2er, 9.0ip), 11 strikeouts and one save in eight relief appearances with the Beavers this season.

In parts of two seasons with Portland (2007-08), Thatcher is 1-0 with a 1.53 ERA (3er, 17.2ip) and 22 strikeouts in 16 relief outings.

Ledezma, 27, is 0-2 with a 5.04 ERA (25er, 44.2ip), 38 strikeouts and 30 walks in 14 games (6 starts) for the Padres this season. Ledezma was acquired by San Diego from Atlanta along with left-handed pitcher Will Startup in exchange for left-hander Royce Ring on July 31, 2007.

The Beavers' active roster is now at 22 players.
