Houston Names Triple-A Player of the Month

HOUSTON - The Houston Astros have named Runelvys Hernandez, Mark Saccomanno and Edwin Maysonet the organization's Triple-A Players of the Month for May.

The right-handed Hernandez earned the Pitcher of the Month nod after posting a 4-0 record with a 1.98 ERA over six starts for the Round Rock Express. He fanned 23 against eight walks, held hitters to team-best .159 batting average and carved out a 0.73 WHIP.

Saccomanno, a former Baylor standout, hit his mid-season stride early, batting .325 with six home runs and 26 RBI. He earned the Offensive Player of the Month award by notching 40 hits in 31 games, including 11 doubles that helped him to a .909 OPS.

Maysonet picked up Defensive Player of the Month for his .969 fielding percentage through 43 games shortstop rounding out May. Maysonet also added in with his bat, hitting .319 with six doubles, two homers and 12 runs scored.

Around the organization, the Astros also named the following Players of the Month for May: Corpus Christi: RHP Brad James, 3B Chris Johnson, C Lou Santangelo; Salem: RHP Bryan Hallberg, OF James Van Ostrand, INF Jhon Florentino; Lexington: LHP Fernando Abad, INF Craig Corrado, OF Colin DeLome. These awards are chosen every month by the field staff of each team.
