Former Penn State star is scheduled to pitch for the Connecticut Defenders in Altoona

(STATE COLLEGE, PA) - Pennsylvania native and former Penn State star Nate Bump is scheduled to take the mound for the Connecticut Defenders in Altoona at Blair County Ballpark this Sunday, June 8. Game time is set for 6:05 p.m.

Bump attended Penn State University and was a member of the baseball team from 1995 - 1998. The last Penn State pitcher to throw a no-hitter, Bump holds the Penn State record for career wins (29), innings pitched (349.1) and strikeouts (352), as well as single season strikeouts (135). He earned First Team All-Big Ten two years and Bit Ten Pitcher of the Year in 1996.

Bump was selected in the first round of the 1998 First-Year-Player Draft by the San Francisco Giants. He was traded to the Florida Marlins on July 24, 1999. He made his big league debut on June 28, 2003 with the Marlins where he earned the win, becoming the sixth Marlin and second Florida reliever to earn a victory in his first Major League game. The right-hander went on to make 32 relief appearances in 2003. Bump played parts of the next two season with in the big leagues with the Marlins, but was hampered by injuries.

The San Francisco Giants signed Bump as a minor league free-agent for the 2008 season. Sunday will mark his sixth outing with the Giants' Double-A affiliate, the Connecticut Defenders.
