FM Talk & Sports 100.5 New Home for Spirit BroadcastsMay 20, 2008 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Saginaw Spirit
On this date, the Saginaw Spirit and NextMedia Operating have announced the formation of a new partnership in the form of a three-year contract deal that will make WTKQ-FM 100.5 the new flagship home for all of the Spirit's live play-by-play broadcasts. Moreover, also included in this new partnership will be the daily "Spirit Hockey Update" report as well as the Monday night "Spirit Hockey Show."
For the next three seasons, 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11, all games played by the Saginaw Spirit, home and away, in their entirety will be aired live with all of the play-by-play action on "FM TALK & SPORTS 100.5." All Spirit game broadcasts will consist of a one-half hour Pre-Game Show as well as the "Spirit Star of the Game Show," which will follow all home game originations and the Spirit Post Game Show, the latter program for all Spirit games.
WTKQ-FM 100.5 has achieved an even greater, stronger and higher presence, profile and visibility in the Spirit's total listening market through its addition of the FOX SPORTS radio network format during its evening and overnight programming hours and on weekends.
The Spirit President/Managing Partner Craig Goslin lauded the new radio/marketing partnership with NextMedia and WTKQ-FM 100.5. "First, we wish to acknowledge 97.3 JoeFM, Owner Ken MacDonald and President Duane Alverson at MacDonald Broadcasting and thank them for an outstanding partnership during the past 6-years. They have been very good working partners with the Saginaw Spirit and we wish them well. NextMedia and 100.5 FM is a great fit for the live broadcast of the Spirit games because f the multiple stations that NextMedia have in Mid Michigan of which cover 5 separate demographics. The entire Spirit organization and our team presenting partner (the mid Michigan Meijer stores) are excited about working with NextMedia to bring the Hall of Fame Voice of play-by-play broadcaster Terry Ficorelli and wit of Saginaw great #8 Dennis Desrosiers to the airways of 100.5 FM. Fans can now listen to Terry and Dennis live for all 68-games, over 25 weekly radio shows during the season and daily updates as we work together to cross promote' the Spirit on all five NextMedia radio stations. Also included as a major part of this new Spirit/Next Media partnership will be the daily "Spirit Hockey Update" report, Monday through Friday during afternoon prime time, drive time at 5:57 pm as well as the Monday night "Spirit Hockey Show" which will be presented live from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm on WTKQ-FM 100.5 "FM TALK & SPORTS 100.5."
