Salem, Ragan Placed on Disabled List

Columbus Catfish News Release

Columbus, GA - The Catfish have placed Emeel Salem and Jason Ragan on the disabled list and activated Woods Fines. Salem's placement on the disabled list is retroactive to yesterday.

Salem was having a great year for the Catfish in his first experience of full-season ball. Salem was hitting .301 with a team leading 46 hits, a professional baseball high in stolen bases with 25 and was on a 7 game hitting streak. Salem was the sparkplug at the top of the lineup and he had played a flawless centerfield this year, which led to him being named Tampa Bay's Minor League Player of the Month for April. Salem was hurt May 14th against Hickory when he slid headfirst into second base after his 25th stolen base and has a broken elbow.

Ragan was also having a very good year for the Catfish. Ragan began the year with a 17 and 2/3 inning scoreless streak and is 2nd on the team with 5 wins. For the season, Ragan has made 8 starts and has a record of 5-3 with a 3.18 earned run average. Ragan left Thursday's game against Hickory after 1 and 2/3 innings. He is expected to miss a couple of starts.

Fines will take the roster spot of Ragan. Fines is familiar to Catfish fans, as he was a member of the South Atlantic League Champions from a year ago, when he went 7-7 with a 4.41 ERA in 24 starts.

The Catfish are the Class A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.
