Revs head west for Sunday-afternoon meeting with Chivas USA

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution will train in Foxborough three times this week in preparation for the club's match against Chivas USA at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, May 11, at The Home Depot Center.

NEW ENGLAND VS. CHIVAS USA SERIES INFORMATION

The all-time series between New England and Chivas USA is even at 2-2-2 ... through six meetings, each teams has scored six goals.

The visiting team has never won a game in the six-game series between the two clubs ... the Revs are 0-2-1 against Chivas USA at The Home Depot Center, while they're 2-0-1 at Gillette Stadium.

Chivas USA won the regular-season series against the Revolution for the first time in 2007, 1-0-1 ... the Goats claimed a 2-0 victory at The Home Depot Center on June 30 before earning a 1-1 draw at Gillette Stadium just one week later (July 7).

The clubs tied the regular-season series in Chivas USA's expansion season of 2005 (1-1-0), while New England won the 2006 series (1-0-1).

The Revs have scored just one goal in their three regular-season games at Chivas USA, while the Goats have scored just twice in their three visits to New England.

PLAYER NOTES VS. CHIVAS USA

Taylor Twellman leads the Revolution in goals (2), shots (15), shots on goal (5) and fouls suffered (10) against Chivas USA.

Shalrie Joseph is the only other current Rev to have scored a goal against the Goats ... he has also added one assist.

Steve Ralston leads the Revolution in assists (2) against Chivas USA ... Chris Albright has also recorded two assists against the Goats, both of which came during his time with the L.A. Galaxy.

Jay Heaps, Michael Parkhurst and Matt Reis have each played every minute of every game against Chivas USA in the six-game, regular-season series.

Matt Reis has maintained a 1.00 goals against average in six games against Chivas USA, which is his fourth-lowest goals against average against any MLS team ... Reis is 2-2-2 with one shutout against the Goats.

Steve Ralston tied the Major League Soccer career assist record (114) by providing the assist on Andy Dorman's equalizing goal in the 64th minute, as the Revolution came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw at Gillette Stadium ... Chivas USA captain Claudio Suarez staked the visitors to an early 1-0 lead when he headed in Alex Zotinca's corner kick in the fourth minute ... New England scored on a corner kick of its own midway through the second half, as Dorman connected with Ralston's service near the penalty spot, bouncing a shot through a crowd and past Chivas USA goalkeeper Preston Burpo ... the Revs out-shot the Goats, 20-9, including a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal.

NEWS & NOTES

VISITORS NOT WELCOME

There has been a distinct home-field advantage in the all-time, regular-season series between the Revolution and Chivas USA, as the visiting team has never earned a victory in the six-game series ... New England is 0-2-1 in its three road matches against the Goats, with its only point earned in a 1-1 draw on Aug. 6. 2006 ... meanwhile, the Revs are 2-0-1 against Chivas USA at Gillette Stadium ... New England will aim for its first-ever victory over Chivas USA at The Home Depot Center when the club visits on Sunday afternoon.

REVOLUTION AND CHIVAS USA AN EVEN MATCH

Over the course of their all-time, regular-season series, New England and Chivas USA have matched up remarkably even in a number of statistical categories ... overall, the six-game series is tied at 2-2-2, with each team going 2-0-1 at home ... additionally, each team has scored six goals and recorded seven assists ... the Revs have scored five of their six goals at home, while four of the Goats' six goals have come at The Home Depot Center.

ON THE MEND

Midfielder Steve Ralston and defender Chris Albright returned to the field for the Revolution's 3-0 loss to the Chicago Fire on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium (May 3), after both missed extended time with injuries ... Albright started at right back, marking his first appearance since sustaining a bone bruise in his left ankle in New England's previous meeting with Chicago at Toyota Park (Apr. 3) ... Ralston entered the match in the 54th minute, replacing Khano Smith and sliding into a central attacking midfield role ... it was Ralston's first appearance since dislocating his left shoulder early in the second half of the season opener against Houston (Mar. 29) ... all-told, Albright missed four full games, while Ralston was out for five.

TWELLMAN CLOSE TO RETURN

The goal-hungry Revs are set to receive a huge boost this week, as the club's all-time leading goal-scorer, Taylor Twellman, is on the verge of returning to the lineup for the first time this season ... Twellman, who has scored 101 career goals (regular season and playoffs) with New England, was in the Revolution's initial starting lineup for the season opener against Houston (Mar. 29), but was removed after experiencing discomfort in his knee during warm-ups ... he underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on Apr. 2 to repair a tear in his medial meniscus ... the original diagnosis predicted a 6-8 week recovery period for Twellman, and he is scheduled to return just ahead of the six-week mark.

BRAZIL TO MEET VENEZUELA AT GILLETTE STADIUM ON JUNE 6 ...

The New England Revolution announced on Apr. 29 that world soccer power Brazil will return to Foxborough when it meets the Venezuela National Team at Gillette Stadium at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2008 ... the match falls on an official FIFA match-date and Brazil, the world's second-ranked team, is expected to call up its stars such as Ronaldinho, Kaka and Robinho ... the game marks Brazil's second trip to Foxborough, as on Sept. 12, 2007, Brazil defeated Mexico, 3-1, in front of a sell-out and record crowd of 67,684 at Gillette Stadium.

... CREATING DOUBLE-HEADER WITH RESCHEDULED REVOLUTION GAME

The Revolution announced on Apr. 29 that its home match against FC Dallas - originally scheduled for Sunday, June 8 - has been moved to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 6 in order to create a special soccer doubleheader at Gillette Stadium ... the Revs' match against the Hoops will be followed by a meeting between Brazil and Venezuela at 8:30 p.m. ... the New England-Dallas game will now be televised live on Comcast Sports Net in order to accommodate the date change.

REVOLUTION JOINS MLS FUTBOLITO TOUR

The New England Revolution announced on May 3 that, for the first time in team history, it will host Major League Soccer's multicultural grassroots initiative, MLS Futbolito, the League's official 4-v-4 soccer tournament ... the Revs will host the event on Saturday, June 14, at the University of Massachusetts-Boston ... current Revolution players and MLS legends will make appearances at the day-long event ...
