Connecticut Defenders News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY- For a team ranked last in batting average, the Defenders sure have kicked that trait to the curb. Between Saturday's and Sunday's contests, Connecticut has scored a impressive 33 runs. For the second straight day the Defenders slaughtered the B-Mets, this time by a final of 14-3.

Connecticut started off right where they left off on Saturday as they plated five runs in the opening frame on seven consecutive base hits as the Defenders surged out to a 5-0 advantage.

After giving one back in the home half of the first, the Defenders were went right back to work in the second. Travis Ishikawa doubled home Jake Wald, Carlos Sosa lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home Ben Copeland from third and Dave Maroul brought Ishikawa home on a RBI double of his own. After just one and half innings played, The Defenders led 8-1.

A quiet third, fourth and fifth made way for a raucous fifth. Copeland singled, Ishikawa stung a base hit of his own, and Sosa hit a laser beam down the line to double home both runners. Adam Witter was intentionally walked and Dave Maroul struck out looking as the rest of the rally laid on the wide shoulders of Eddy Martinez-Esteve. Without hesitation, Martinez-Esteve launched a three-run bomb down the left field line as the Defenders claimed a lop-sided 13-3 lead.

Copeland continued his excellence at the plate as he ripped his ninth hit of the series in the top of the seventh, this time a solo homer to make it 14-3.

Joey Martinez earned his first win of the season as he was given a humongous pad in the early going. Osiris Matos and Justin Hedrick pitched solid out of the bullpen as the Defenders enjoyed another comfortable win.

Connecticut will travel to Harrisburg for a four-game set against the Southern Division leading Senators. The Defenders will travel home to face off against the B-Mets again starting May 9 at 6:35pm. For more information, visit ctdefenders.com or call the box office at (860) 887-7962.
