
Kris Johnson Named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week

Portland, Maine- Sea Dogs' left-handed pitcher Kris Johnson has been selected the Bank of America Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 21st -April 27th. The selection was made by Major League Baseball Advanced Media.
The 23 year-old Johnson notched two wins with a 0.77 ERA in two starts last week. In his first start on April 22nd against New Hampshire, he tossed 5.2 innings allowing two runs, one earned on four hits. He struck out six and walked three as Portland defeated the Fisher Cats 11-2. Johnson was even better in his second start of the week on April 27th against the Binghamton Mets. Johnson scattered five hits over six innings and did not allow a run. Johnson fanned three and did not allow a walk as the Sea Dogs collected a 3-0 victory of the Mets.
The 6'2, 170 lb. hurler spent the 2007 season with Single-A Lancaster where he posted a 9-7 record with a 5.56 ERA. His nine wins was a team high. Johnson is rated by Baseball America as the 13th ranked prospect in the Red Sox organization. The Blue Springs, Missouri resident was the Red Sox third pick (sandwich pick between the first and second rounds, 40th overall) in the June 2006 first-year player draft out of Wichita State University.
Johnson is the second Sea Dogs' pitcher to take home the honor this season. Justin Masterson was the Bank of America Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the opening week of the 2008 season.
The Sea Dogs currently own the best record in the Eastern League at 17-6. Portland has an off day today, they begin a six game road trip with stops in Bowie, Maryland and Trenton, New Jersey on Tuesday night against the Baysox. Portland returns home on Monday, May 5th for a seven day homestand. Tickets for all Sea Dogs home games are currently available.
